Time to break the concept of “Winter is too cold, time to fly out somewhere warm”. For anyone living in a state that sees winter every year, it does not make sense to always escape the cold. Instead, it’s time to embrace our four seasons and explore the coolest winter retreats.
If you have not experienced a winter retreat, you’re missing out friends! I hope this post gives you some good ideas of places to venture with the guys, your family or even alone.
- Dog Sledding – that’s right, people still use dogs to get around, it’s also referred to as mushing. It’s a great way to explore beautiful snow covered terrains and learn to handle a group of huskies. There are hundreds of kennels around the US and the majority are near ski resorts. You can take a day away from skiing or go on a journey for several days or even weeks with your guide and dogs. Make sure to go prepared for the length of time and the weather and you’ll be sure to enjoy this amazing experience.
- Yurt Lodging – a Yurt is basically the halfway point of camping and cottaging. It gives you a warm room and basic necessities and if you really want to get fancy, you can get full luxury yurts. It’s an affordable way to get in the outdoors during cold days without having to skin a bear for it’s warm coat.
- Winter Festivals – The US has some great winter festivals scheduled, it just takes someone to seek them out. Winter festivals are some of the most authentic and snow embracing events in the world. Just one example is the Saint Paul Winter Carnival in Minnesota. It hosts over 350,000 visitors yearly and is packed with activities for families, children and bachelors.
No matter which travel destination you chose, we wish you happiness on your winter trip. Let us know about some great places you’ve travelled to or where you’re planning to vacation this year.
