Auto Show 2016 Highlights

2016 Auto Show

We’re just getting back from the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS) and have some amazing photos and highlights to share with you.

It was an exciting trip and it’s always good to be back in “The D”, as our friends in Detroit like to refer to the metropolis. For those who have not been, Detroit’s Auto Show is one of the largest in the world and all of the major players put on their best displays. This year was no different as we played witness to amazing new car designs that are hitting the consumer market this year.

President Barak Obama at the Detroit Auto Show

In the first few hours, half the show was blocked off as President Obama made a visit to the city. Although we missed a couple of displays (Nissan and Mitsubishi), it was interesting to hear the crowd cheering “Obama, Obama, Obama” and then booing off the employee who closed the curtain between the President and the public. Needless to say, there was a lot to see so let’s jump straight into the highlights.

Acura Precision Concept:

One of the most amazing concepts we have seen to date… the Acura Precision. This concept car made it’s highly anticipated debut in Detroit’s Auto Show and did not fail to impress at any stretch of the imagination. We don’t have much in terms of performance specs but the chiselled, modern body with articulate lined design is spectacular. Acura is jumping right into the future with this model and we can only await a successful release over the next few years. This luxury sedan has a mean grille and looks like nothing else on the road, especially with both doors open. If you could see just one car from this years auto show, this is the one you don’t want to miss.

2017 Ford GT:

With a price tag at $100,000 the Ford GT has some value to show and this model appears to have done just that in a excellent combination of sports design and performance. The super light carbon-fiber and aluminum construction is beautiful. Under the hood we see a V6 EcoBoost V-6 Engine that cranks out 600+ HP that takes the Ford GT from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and has top speeds of over 200 mph. This is one of the best sports vehicles Ford has designed to-date and stood out as a top contender for a top sports car at the auto show.

2017 BMW i8 Hybrid:

Starting at $149,000 this unique vehicle showcases a first ever supercar hybrid and stood apart from virtually any other car on the auto show floor. A turbo-charged three cylinder gas engine works with two electric motors to produce 357 hp and takes off from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds which is actually faster than an M3. The fuel consumption is beyond exceptional for a gas vehicle, but not as good as other hybrids. I’m not sure that the buyer is concerned about gas prices or if it’s geared for a environmentally conscious sports enthusiast. Either way, BMW has produced a truly revolutionary car with the plug-in i8 Hybrid.

We’ve got many more vehicles to showcase including the Aston Martin, Lexus, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz so stay tuned for our upcoming posts.
